Downtown Wakefield June 21st at 5:00 PM

The Welcome House of South County and Jonnycake Center of Peace Dale are partnering with Wakefield Village restaurants to raise awareness and generate funding in support of local efforts to ameliorate hunger and homelessness. Help kick-off the 2018 RiverFire season as our community reignites its commitment to ending hunger.
For a suggested donation of $5.00 you can sample a tasty treat from a local food sponsor, including main street eateries: Brickley’s Ice Cream ~ Mary Murphy’s ~ Phil’s Main Street Grill Pier Pizza ~ El Fuego ~ Auntie’s Kitchen ~ Smoothy Booty. A children’s anti-hunger parade will launch from Wakefield Elementary School at 4:45 pm followed by food and live music. Becky Chace will perform live as a member of the 1 in 52 Hunger Network.

JUNE MISSION OFFERING: JONNYCAKE CENTER OF PEACE DALE
Our church mission contributions for the month of June are going to the Jonnycake Center, located at 1231 Kingstown Road in Peace Dale. This wonderful organization has been providing needed food, clothing, and household goods to individuals and families in the South County area for over 40 years. They support over 1700 active clients.
The Food Pantry is open Tuesday through Saturday and provides healthy foods, vouchers for free clothing, as well as diapers and nutritional supplements to its clients, our neighbors who struggle to put food on the table. Children whose families are enrolled at the Jonnycake Center can receive breakfast and lunch items during the summer and for all school vacation days. Homebound seniors can receive monthly food deliveries from the food pantry.
Financial donations have the biggest impact for a food pantry.  The Jonnycake Center can purchase food at a very reduced cost through their partnership with the RI Community Food Bank.  For every dollar donated, the Jonnycake Center can buy 10 pounds of food from the Food Bank.
The Jonnycake Thrift Store, is open to the public Tuesday through Saturday, offering clothing and outerwear, furniture, and household items at greatly reduced prices. Every purchase made at the thrift store helps support the food pantry and member services of the Jonnycake Center.
The  vision of the Jonnycake Center is to eliminate hunger in our community. By donating our PDCC mission collections to the Jonnycake Center this month, we are making this our vision as well!
