The front lawn at Peace Dale Congregational Church, 261 Columbia St., Wakefield, RI, will be transformed into a Pumpkin Patch on Sunday, September 29, 2024, with the noon arrival of 5,500 pumpkins and gourds from Navajo agriculture in New Mexico. The net proceeds from the 9th Annual Pumpkins with a Purpose sale will benefit Welcome House of South County.
Wally Young, organizer of the event, said, “Over the past 8 years, we have been able to donate almost $100,000 to Welcome House. We are grateful for the support of the community in the battle to prevent homelessness. Every purchase makes a difference in someone’s life.”
Young goes on to say, “The unloading of a huge trailer packed with pumpkins by more than 70 people has become a fun community event. In addition, the Pumpkin Patch provides a month-long opportunity for area middle and high school students to earn community service, learn about responsibility and have good outdoor fun with their friends for a great cause.”
The pumpkins and gourds come in all shapes, sizes and colors with pumpkins ranging from traditional size to cantaloupe size and smaller. You can expect to see white, red, green and grey heirloom pumpkins priced from $1.00 to $35.00, as well as unique decorating gourds priced from $1.00 to $4.00. There will be photos opportunities for families and children.
Cash, check and credit cards will be accepted.
Pumpkin Palooza is a Family-friendly Community Party at the Pumpkin Patch on Saturday, October 5th, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. (Rain Date October 12th) Meg Kolodziej, Volunteer Youth Connect Coordinator, is organizing children’s events which will include Pumpkin Bowling, Trick or Treat Candy Hunt, Pumpkin Roll, Scavenger Hunt and an obstacle course with giant inflatables. A favorite event involves tossing pumpkins from a third floor window.
Music, a White Elephant sale of fall items and a Thrift store sale will add to the fun for all ages. Hotdogs, French fries, hamburgers, baked goods and beverages will be available for purchase.
Pumpkin Palooza is free and open to the public.
